Sustainable Management: MBA

Sustainable management is a comprehensive management framework that bridges the gap between commerce and the common good. It’s a strategic approach to management and policy that requires a blending of social, natural and financial capital to create an integrated bottom line. This means sustainable management considers not just the financial benefits of a decision, but also its economic, environmental and social impact. By doing so, sustainable management transforms business and public policy to bring about a more just, prosperous and sustainable world.

The MBA degree connects rigorous management theory and practice with ecological and social awareness, systems thinking and sustainable leadership.

Program Outcomes


Students will be able to:

  • Apply whole systems thinking to reorient strategies toward sustainable solutions.
  • Integrate sustainability principles, frameworks and tools to business activities, strategies and models.
  • Model highly ethical behavior and social justice orientation to affect sustainability across a broad spectrum of stakeholders.
  • Adjust to changing situations and obstacles and promote productivity and sustainability through a variety of contexts, including relationships, teams and organizations.
  • Encourage and influence relationships that promote sustainability across multiple stakeholders and roles within the global, social, political, ethical and cultural context of business.
  • Identify levers of cultural and structural change in organizations in support of sustainability.
  • Analyze market behavior and interpret the allocation of resources, while recognizing the limitations of existing economic models.
  • Integrate sustainability principles into the design, commercialization, marketing and production of innovative products and services.
  • Interpret the financial conditions of an enterprise and evaluate the use of financial capital to optimize value for all stakeholders, taking into account ethics and other forms of capital, specifically social and natural capital.
  • Conceptualize, apply, analyze, synthesize and/or evaluate the nature of information and knowledge through observation, experience, reflections, reasoning and communication, in ways that guide belief and action.

60 units are required for the MBA in Sustainable Management.

Experiential Learning (EL)


Experiential Learning (EL) is a key part of our educational program. Using this “living case” methodology, students are able to gain experience in the workplace and learn how to apply the skills learned through the program. Additionally, this is an opportunity for students to gain relevant work experience to benefit their careers. Teams of 3-5 students are paired with an organization and work with them over the course of a semester on a specific project. EL projects are embedded in the following courses:
