Revisions to the Alliant International University Academic Catalog

Update

Updated Admissions and Registration   section to include the Waitlist Policy.

Waitlist Policy

Academic departments determine which courses can be waitlisted. Students who are waitlisted for a course will be moved into the course by the Registrar’s Office as space becomes available based on the date and time the student entered the waitlist (i.e. first-come, first-served). Students will receive an email notification from the Registrar’s Office to their Alliant email account when they are added into a course from the waitlist.

If there is any issue preventing a student from being added into a waitlisted course (e.g. holds, schedule conflict, course overload, etc.), the Registrar’s Office will send an email notification to the student. It is the student’s responsibility to monitor their Alliant email on a daily basis during the registration period to ensure they are aware of any important developments. Students have two business days (48 hours) from receipt of the email to resolve the issue and respond or they will be removed from the waitlist. Students may choose to reenter the waitlist, but their priority will be based on the new registration date and time.

Update

Updated personnel and titles.

Updated location descriptions.

Updated Academic Programs Overview  to include information on certificates.

Certificates

Alliant awards two types of certificates, academic credit and non-academic credit certificates. Academic credit certificates may be either academic certificate programs, which are made up of a sequence of courses, or academic credit certificate courses, for which a certificate of completion is awarded. Certificates may be awarded for work at the undergraduate level, post-baccalaureate, graduate level, and post-doctoral level.

Academic Certificate Programs

Academic credit certificate programs are short programs that require completion of a specified sequence of regular academic courses and are developed, defined and evaluated by the Schools. Academic credit certificate programs generally require a minimum of 12 units of generalized content plus specialized coursework, or 9 units of specialized coursework for those who already have obtained the general content in their programs. However, if specialized academic certificate content is pre-determined or specified by an external government agency or professional accrediting organization, a certificate may be awarded for fewer than 9 units of specialized coursework. Certificates awarded for the completion of these programs by Alliant are verified by the University Registrar’s office and posted by that office on Alliant transcripts. Credits obtained through academic certificates may be applied to appropriate academic programs.

Academic Credit Certificate Courses

One or more academic courses may be designated to lead to a professional/vocational certificate of completion. The certificates of completion awarded are not reviewed by the University Registrar’s Office or posted to an Alliant transcript. It is the responsibility of the School to monitor and maintain records of the awarding of the certificate and be prepared to re-issue the certificate if necessary.

Non-Academic Certificates

Non-academic certificates may be awarded Continuing Education (CE) units or may be offered as hours of participation. Non-academic credit certificates may be awarded for either participation in a workshop or training session, and/or competencies gained through such workshops or sessions. Generally these are associated with workforce training, meeting ongoing licensure requirements or professional/personal development. Non-academic certificates are not reviewed by the University Registrar’s Office or posted to Alliant transcripts. It is the responsibility of the academic unit to monitor and maintain credit for the certificate awarded and be prepared to re-issue the certificate if necessary.

Updated the International Students section of Admissions and Registration  from

Alliant welcomes applications from international students whose academic work and English proficiency are of the highest levels. Because academic degrees and coursework must be equivalent to those earned in the United States, international students must submit official, translated transcripts and results from an educational credential evaluation service agency. The evaluation must include degree equivalency to a 4 year bachelor’s degree from an accredited university, U.S. semester credit and grade equivalent for each course, and U.S. grade point average. Any master’s level courses and/or degrees should also be included in the evaluation. To locate an agency, go to www.naces.org. Some international students may find it difficult to obtain a transcript evaluation in a timely manner.  As a paid service, Alliant can arrange for a naces.org evaluator to perform a transcript evaluation using the original transcripts at a non-refundable cost of $280 USD. Simply email admissions@alliant.edu to request instructions. Once the original, translated transcripts are received by Admissions, Alliant will send them for evaluation. This process will take approximately 2 business days. Additional information, such as letters of recommendation, may be requested from international graduate students. English proficiency must be evidenced by the TOEFL (see above) and all international students must carry a full course load at Alliant.

Alliant welcomes applications from international students whose academic work and English proficiency are of the highest levels. While an admissions decision may be made on a copy of your scanned or emailed official transcripts, International students must submit official, translated transcripts upon arrival at your Alliant University campus, during your check in with the International Student Services Office, or during new student orientation. Failure to submit your official transcripts for verification will prohibit further registration for courses at Alliant University. Because academic degrees and coursework must be equivalent to those earned in the United States, international students must submit results from an educational credential evaluation service agency.
