EDU60030/EDU6003 - Preservice for Intern Teaching(2 units) This course is designed to give the beginning intern teacher the foundations for a smooth transition into the classroom. It provides the new professional with an overview of theories of pedagogy and developmental learning, methods of instruction, special needs identification and instruction, classroom management skills, teaching English Language Learners, California State Standards for Instruction, and Teaching Performance Expectations presented by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing. The course is presented online with opportunities for classroom observations and was developed to enhance understanding and improve delivery, supporting observation of the candidate’s ability to transform theory into practice.
The pre-service course is a requirement set by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing to ensure proper preparation of new teachers entering the classroom and supports Education Code (EC) sections 44450-44468 (the Teacher Education Internship of 1967) authorizing institutions of higher education to partner with local education agencies to develop internships. This course has been developed to meet the Commission’s Standards of Program Quality and Effectiveness.
