EDU 6820 - Advanced Research, Theory and Assessment

This 4-unit course assures the Candidate’s competency in analysis of standardized and informal assessment and related planning and IEP development for special needs students. The course incorporates the latest research in multicultural considerations, ELL considerations, poverty consideration as well as federal and state guidelines and state and LEA capacity to support programming. Various methods of research in special education are discussed as well as current research findings and implication for best practices. Legislative processes in state and federal educational code are analyzed with consideration of recent legislated acts impacting special education.

This course is designed to build upon the knowledge that the Candidate has already gained in his/ her Preliminary Education Specialist Program. Not only is the Candidate going more in-depth regards to understanding how to perform educational assessment, this course focuses on self-evaluation using the plan, teach, reflect and apply cycle drawing upon the three essential components developed by California Standards for the Teaching Profession (CSTP): standards, evidence of practice, and criteria.
