CHD31100 - The American Family(3 units) The American family is often thought to be changing in ways considered unfortunate for children and society. At the same time, the family continues to occupy a central place in people’s lives. This course examines how and why American families change, and explores the consequences of these changes. Aspects of family life considered include premarital sex, mate choice, marriage relations, work and family, gender roles, childrearing, family violence, divorce, and intergenerational relations. Assignments include both a systematic observation of children and a course project demonstrating competence in the course objectives.
