HMG40200 - Hotel Operations and Management(3 units) This course focuses on the key principles of hotel operations and management within the international hospitality industry. Students will learn the operations at every stage of the “Guest Cycle” (i.e. reservation, registration, stay, and check-out) as well as the hotel’s revenue cycle and the impact of rate structures on revenues. At the same time, students will understand the importance of giving quality service in guest services and will know the effects of technology on hotel operations. In order to facilitate a real-world understanding of Guest Services and Reservation Management, this class will require a hotel field trip. In addition to the classroom instruction, students are required to get real-world experience through a practicum in an approved organizational setting for 80 - 160 hours. However, if a student is unable to secure a practicum site, another option such as a project will be made available to them to ensure they meet the course requirements through an applied project designed with the instructor.
