PSY60214 - Advanced Statistics I(4 units) Students learn processes and get hands on practice to develop competency in (a) analyzing research data; (b) understanding and critically reviewing statistical findings in empirical papers; (c) presenting empirical results to other scholars; and (d) running statistical analyses using SPSS; with direct guidance and immediate feedback. Students will become familiar with the computer hardware/operating environments and statistical software packages. They acquire the ability to conduct statistical analyses and problem solving with data through exercises in: Hypothesis testing, Testing statistical assumptions, Examining data distributions and standard scores, Comparing means, The partitioning of variance, Basic Analysis of Variance (ANOVA), Correlation analysis, Simple and multiple regression analysis, Reliability analysis, Planned and Post-hoc comparisons, Simple effects and simple interactions, Complex between groups designs, Mixed models. The course and lab combination provides didactic and hands on practice with acquiring knowledge and skills in line with the following APA discipline-specific knowledge and profession wide competencies for doctoral students.
