ELM88650 - Higher Education Leadership

This course will provide an overview of the various theories that inform leadership in higher education. In this course, students will be presented with leadership as a discipline that transcends functional areas and will serve as a framework to lead and guide within higher education and the world beyond. This course explores and generates an in-depth understanding of leadership theories as well as contemporary issues influencing education with an emphasis on reading, researching, and discussion of topics. Students will be expected to read widely and be knowledgeable about current issues affecting the field of education, and understand relevant background and historical information relating to the issues. Students will be able to articulate the issues in oral and written presentations. Active participation in class is essential. This course will involve discussion, written and oral reports, online postings, and the integration of knowledge across the spectrum of higher leadership issues in education.
