PSY65513 - Neuroscience for MFTs

This course will focus on developing a basic understanding of neuroscience for MFTs to utilize in clinical practice. This course will explore topics like attachment influences, changes during the life cycle, the concept of “MIND,” emotional regulation, and therapeutic alliance and presence. The course will allow students to explore the power of systems and relationships from an emotional and neuroscientific perspective. The course will touch on core principles of Interpersonal Neurobiology, Polyvagal Theory, and Affective Regulation Theory and their connection to clinical practice. The course will examine these topics by discussing intervention, assessment and diagnosis, and treatment from a systemic perspective. Doctoral students enrolled in this course will evaluate study designs and outcomes from these perspectives.
