Master of Arts in Education with Teaching Credential

Students enrolled in the Alliant Post Baccalaureate Teacher Education Program who have been recommended for the California Preliminary Teaching Credential may apply up to 12 semester units with a minimum grade of B towards requirements for the Master of Arts in Education.

They may also elect to apply these 12 semester units towards a concentration in Teaching or 3 semester units towards the Master of Arts in Education with a concentration in TESOL.

Note: Candidates seeking a Preliminary Teaching Credential may waive Level I technology coursework requirements through successful passage of an Alliant-administered technology competency examination. No academic credit is awarded for waived coursework. This option is not available to Candidates pursuing a MAEd degree.

The current Teacher Credential Program is embedded within the Hufstedler School of Education’s Master of Arts in Education Program. The preliminary credential and master’s degree are obtained concurrently.

Additional Courses for Student Teaching and Standard Intern Credentials


Students enrolled in the Alliant Post-Baccalaureate Teacher Education Program since Fall 2000, or subsequently, who have been recommended for the California Preliminary or Clear (education specialist) Teaching Credential may apply credential coursework units with a minimum grade of B towards requirements for the Master of Arts in Education with a concentration in Teaching or 3 semester units towards the Master of Arts in Education with a concentration in TESOL.

The current Teacher Credential Program is embedded within the Hufstedler School of Education’s Master of Arts in Education Program. The preliminary credential and master’s degree may be obtained concurrently.

In addition to the course requirements discussed in the Student Teaching and Standard Intern tracks in the Teacher Credential Programs section, the following courses are required:

  • TCH 7621 Critical Thinking for Teaching and Learning
  • TCH 7685 Research Seminar
  • TCH 7690 Practicum/Project in Teaching

These courses are described below.


Additional Courses for ECO Intern Track Students

In addition to the course requirements discussed in the SEarly Completion Option (ECO) track in the Teacher Credential Programs section, the following courses are required:

  • TES 7040 Developing Cross-Cultural Competencies (3 units online)
  • TCH 7621 Critical Thinking for Teaching and Learning (3 units online)
  • TCH 7640 New Models of Instruction and Learning (3 units online)
  • TCH 7685 Research Seminar (3 units online and on ground)
  • TCH 7690 Practicum/Curriculum Project (3 units online and on ground)
  • TEL 7170 Technology in the Curriculum (3 units) is recommended for fulfilling the technology competency requirement for credentialing
  • TCH 7660 Methods of Assessment (optional) (3 units- online)

These courses are described below.


Additional Courses for Education Specialists: Mild/Moderate Disabilities


 

In addition to the course requirements discussed in the Education Specialists: Mild/Moderate Disabilities Clear Credential Programs section, the following courses are required for the Master of Arts in Education:

  • ELM 7850 School, Family, and Community Relations (3 units)

Or

  • TES 7450 Introduction to Psycholinguistics and Sociolinguistics (3 units)

And

  • TEL 7170 Technology in the Curriculum (3 units)

And

  • TES 7040 Development of Cross-Cultural Competencies (3 units)
  • TCH 7685 Research Seminar (3 units)
  • TCH 7690 Practicum / Curriculum Project (3 units)

In addition to the course requirements discussed in the International Teacher Preparation Certificate tracks in the Certificate and Special Authorization Programs section, the following courses are required for the Master of Arts in Education:
