Business Administration: DBA

The DBA program of Alliant’s School of Management (ASM) is designed to provide a multidisciplinary and global perspective for managers and to emphasize the use of both practical and theoretical abilities. The program encourages the assimilation of ideas from business administration, the humanities and the behavioral sciences. The DBA program prepares students for advanced positions in teaching and research, management, or consulting. The degree consists of 60 units, of which 18 units are concentration courses.

The DBA program ensures comprehensive coverage of the body of knowledge and skills needed for graduates to perform successfully in academia as well as in corporations and other organizations. The curriculum has a business and management emphasis as well as a research orientation; more than one fifth of the 60 unit program entails independent research hours conducted at the doctoral level with an applied focus under the supervision of the student’s doctoral committee. In addition, many of the courses are offered in an independent study format with a close working relationship with the professor and a small group of students. Students who can excel in this learning environment will do very well in this program. In general, the earlier the student chooses a topic area for their dissertation with input from the faculty, the more effective the courses will be in facilitating the student’s successful completion of the dissertation.

Based on the University and ASM missions of professional practice, scholarship and an international and multicultural approach to business and management competence, the DBA program is committed to excellence in the formulation and delivery of programs in a climate that includes challenging academic requirements for students.

Program Outcomes

Objective 1: Discovery of new international and multicultural knowledge in the DBA concentration areas of Finance, Marketing or Strategic Management, that can be applied to enhance successful management of business firms, government organizations and other not-for-profit organizations.

Learning Model

A DBA is an applied doctoral degree and graduates work in academia, corporations, not-for-profits, consulting agencies upon graduation.
