LDR 8705 - Authentic Leadership and Organizational Ethics

Ethics and authenticity are at the heart of leadership in effective organizational practices. This course is dedicated to connecting and promoting moral principles within the context of values-based, micro- and macro-level organizational dynamics.  The tenets of authentic leadership and ethical organizational behaviors will be explored through theories, empirical research, and practice issues relevant to contemporary strategic business management and leadership development.  Key character strengths and individual- and organizational-level virtues essential to meaningful leadership will be discussed.  Demonstrating authenticity as a function of integrity, self-awareness, interrelatedness, relational transparency with others for a mindful leadership and followership dyad, as well as organizational functioning, will be examined.  Cognitive, affective, and behavioral components, within the context of internal and external factors, will be studied.  The course will integrate individual, group, and system-directed elements, such as: trust, decision-making, motivation, inclusion, communication, emotional intelligence, constructive conflict, performance management, citizenship behaviors, and corporate social responsibility, as well as ethical climate and culture.
