Educational Administration: Masters of Arts in Education (MAE)

The MAE: Educational Administration program prepares practicing educators for leadership in educational settings. The Program emphasizes the development of knowledge, skills and dispositions characteristic of effective and innovation administrative leaders inclusive of capacity for problem solving, conflict resolution, and working with diverse individuals, families, and communities. Practical situations in educational settings are thematically integrated with theory in all aspects of the curriculum.

Program Outcomes
The Program supports and advances the following Outcomes, assuring Graduates will be able to:
- Facilitate the development, articulation, implementation, and stewardship of a vision of learning shared and supported by the school community.
- Advocate, nurture, and sustain a school culture and instructional program conducive to student learning and staff professional growth.
- Ensure management of the learning organization including operations and resources for a safe, efficient, and effective learning environment.
- Collaborate with families and community members, responding to diverse community interests and needs, and mobilizing community resources.
- Model a personal code of ethics and developing professional leadership capacity.
Specialized Admissions Requirements
Applicants to Educational Leadership and Management programs and Teacher Education programs must satisfy the requirements stipulated in the “Admissions and Registration” section of the University catalog, and must also meet the following criteria:
GPA: Students must have a minimum GPA of 2.5
Recommendations: Each candidate must provide two written confidential recommendations from those who can attest to the applicant’s abilities, interests, and proven accomplishments in education.
Personal essay: A two-page personal essay describing the following is required:
- the professional organizations to which you belong,
- honors, activities and other creative accomplishments, and
- a brief autobiographical statement including future professional plans.
Interview: Student must have an interview with the relevant HSOE Admissions Committee.
Upon receipt and review of all documentation, the candidate will be considered for final admission. Final admissions decision will be made by the Program Faculty.
Applicants to the Teaching, Educational Specialist, and Administrative Services Credential Programs must also give evidence of passing CBEST scores.
Applicants to the Administrative Services Credential Program must submit a valid CCTC Teaching or Services Credential. Curriculum and Degree Requirements
The Educational Administration program prepares practicing educators for leadership in educational settings. The MAE: Educational Administration is a 33 semester unit program. A California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CCTC) Preliminary Administrative Services credential may concurrently be obtained with the MAE: Educational Administration degree and is so embedded and discussed in the “Credentials” section. Of note, the Administrative Services credential may be obtained without the MAE degree.
Degrees are posted to the official university transcript through the Registrar’s Office at Candidate request. All coursework is posted to the transcript at the end of each semester/term. Certificates are issued directly to the Candidate at the conclusion of the certificate programs. Completion of degree program is verified by the Registrar as per the Master Plan of Study.
All courses below are three units (3) unless otherwise noted. |
