PSY61290 - Foundations in Multicultural Psychology(3 units) This course is designed to explore the ethical and cultural perspectives of the entering G1 class. The course will provide an overview of theories, concepts and research in the area of multiculturalism and clinical services with an emphasis on issues of equity, power relations, and institutionalized oppression. Through a variety of methods and activities, students will be encouraged to focus on their own values and cultural orientations, to become aware of stereotypes, address prejudices, and develop the skills to relate with different kinds of people. Students will participate in small and large group discussions and activities to clarify the role of cultural diversity in their personal and professional development as psychologists.
